The ruling coalition's Croatian People's Party (HNS) said on Saturday it was ready for local elections due in May and announced a possible coalition with the partners in the current ruling coalition.
"The network of 500 HNS branches shows that we will be an unavoidable partner in defeating the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union), just as we defeated it in the last parliamentary election," HNS vice president Ivan Vrdoljak told reporters, adding that the HNS was mainly talking about defeating the HDZ with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the other partners in the ruling coalition.
He said the party's goal was to increase the number of its councillors and mayors by at least 20 per cent.
