Croatia’s second match of the World Championships Division II also ended in goals galore. After running over Iceland 9-0, Bulgaria was second to fall to Croatia, losing by a fifteen goal margin, 17-2
The host nation overcame their competition with great ease, running over the Bulgarians 17-2. Croatia currently holds the first spot on the table, tied for points with Romania.
Repeating their Sunday performance against Iceland, Croatia outskated, outpassed and outclassed the Bulgarians, taking a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period. Three minutes in to the second period, Croatia increased the lead to 6-0, by which time the Bulgarians countered and scored their first of two goals against 17-year-old Croatian goalie Mato Tomljenovic, who plays his hockey in Slovakia’s Zvolen.
Croatia picked up the pace, scoring seven more against the 47-year old Konstantin Mihaylov by the end of the second period for a 13-1 score line.
In the third period, Croatia took a breather to save up energy for upcoming games, scoring four and allowing in only one. Croatia’s goals came from hat trick hero Marko Lovrencic and Borna Rendulic, Danijel Plahutar, Mislav Blagus and Tomislav Cunko who scored two each, as well as from Nikola Senzel, Dominik Kanaet, Tomislav Grozaj, Marko Ljubic and Miroslav Brumercik.
Croatia rests on Tuesday and plays China on Wednesday when goals are expected to flow once more.
