The Dioki company's supervisory board has made a decision in principle on the sale of the assets not belonging to the main line of business, including the Novi List newspaper publisher, the management of the Dioki producer of petrochemicals and plastics said on Friday.

The company will focus on its basic line of business, that is the petrochemicals production, the management said in a statement, adding that no potential buyer of Novi List has been detected yet and that no due diligence is being performed in that daily and newspaper publisher.

The Croatian Journalists' Trade Union (SNH) steward in Novi List, Nenad Miculinic, said today that the trade union had urged the management to ensure a transparent sale and enable trade union representatives to hold talks with potential buyers.

He said that representatives of the three trade unions active in Novi List held regular meetings.

According to data obtained by the management, Dioki's obligation not to fire workers expires on 12 May, three years after it acquired a majority interest in the daily.

Until the expiry of the deadline, a new categorisation of jobs in the newspaper will have been carried out and workers can be given new contracts, according to Miculinic.

He said that trade unions were concerned about the possibility of Novi List being included in the bankruptcy estate in case Dioki files for bankruptcy due to its high debts.
