The southern Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik was voted the best tourist spot in Southeast Europe at a ceremony in Belgrade this past week.
The competition was organised by the SACEN International Centre for the Promotion of Tourism and Hospitality as part of its campaign "Let's Choose the Best in the Tourism of Southeast Europe 2010".
Turkey was voted the best tourist destination in Southeast Europe, Slovenia's Sportni Turizam Portoroz was declared the champion of sports tourism and the Tourist Board of the Montenegrin city of Herceg Novi the champion of cultural tourism.
Among other awards, Professor Miroslav Dragicevic of Horwath Consulting from Zagreb received the Person of the Year Award for Tourism Education, while the President of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, Milan Jankovic, was voted Person of the Year in the Tourism of Southeast Europe.
SACEN has been monitoring the quality of tourism services in Southeast Europe for 20 years. It presents awards to the best in 15 categories from 13 countries of the region -- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey.
