The heart-shaped Croatian island of Galesnjak, also known as the Island of Love, has been ranked the most beautiful natural heart-shaped island in the world by the portal of Spain's El Pais newspaper on the occasion of Valentine's Day, the Croatian National Tourist Board said on Tuesday.
El Pais says Galesnjak was discovered in 1806 by one of Napoleon's cartographers and that it became famous thanks to Google Earth maps.
Since then, because of its beauty and mild climate, Galesnjak has become the destination of many romantics who can say 'I do' on one of the island's rocks.
The 0.132 square kilometre island is located in the Pasman Channel between the island of Pasman and the coastal town of Turanj on Croatia's central Adriatic coast.
The other heart-shaped islands and peninsulas on the El Pais list are the Heart reef on the Whitsundays islands in Australia, Corazon island at Lago Mascardi in Argentina, Tavarua island in Fiji and the Del Lago Welchen peninsula in Germany.
