Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to immediately start the proceedings and punish the former Bosnian Serb military commander, Ratko Mladic, who was captured in Serbia on Thursday after evading justice for 16 years.
We want the ICTY to start the trial and punish such murderer as Ratko Mladic was, Erdogan was quoted by the Anatolian state news agency as saying on Saturday, according to the French AFP news agency.
At an election rally in the province of Hatay, Erdogan said that innocent victims, massacred in the war, could not be brought back to life but that the Mladic arrest had a little abated the suffering.
Mladic is awaiting extradition from Belgrade to the Hague-based ICTY tribunal which charged him with genocide.
