A wildfire in the Jablanica region in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday once again erupted out of control and has threatened road and rail traffic between the town of Mostar and the capital Sarajevo and so the assistance of Croatia's Canadair fire planes is the only hope to stop the blaze.

According to the director of the Jablanica professional fire-fighting brigade, Omer Dreznjak, the situation is exceptionally difficult and without the help of two Croatian Canadair aircraft, that yesterday stopped the blaze from spreading, any hope of putting out the fire is impossible.

He added that two planes from Croatia were expected later in the afternoon to assist in putting out the fire.

European commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response MEP Kristalina Georgieva on Thursday commended Croatia for its solidarity with Bosnia and Herzegovina in efforts to fight the wildfire around Jablanica.
