The government on Thursday adopted a decision on how to manage shares in the Brodosplit shipyard, thus completing the process of privatisation of that Split-based company, and a privatisation contract should be signed with the Samobor-based DIV company on 28 February in Zagreb.
The decision to accept DIV's binding offer finalises the process of privatisation and restructuring of the Split dock, which started in 2009, Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak said at the cabinet's session on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the European Commission authorised the restructuring plan for Brodosplit, an amendment to the restructuring plan and the privatisation contract for Brodosplit. The amendment concerns a modest increase in the total amount of restructuring aid to Brodosplit, as well as additional compensatory measures. Croatia committed to sign the privatisation contract by 28 February 2013, the commission said yesterday.
Minister Vrdoljak said today that this was a historic decision which "is also gives a chance to the Croatian shipbuilding industry to function on sound pillars".
Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said that this was a step forward in efforts to boost the Croatian shipbuilding sector's competitiveness.
The cabinet today endorsed draft amendments to legislation providing for the rights and entitlements of workers in cases when their employers go bankrupt. The proposed changes reinforce the protection of material rights of employees in the event of termination of employment before bankruptcy proceedings are launched.
