The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has severely criticised the latest bill on Croatia's strategic investment projects because, under the excuse of "cutting red tape", it will allow exploitation of Croatia's natural resources which are the last line of defence of Croatia's sovereignty.
"Forests, water, farmland are a national wealth and definitely the last line of defence of Croatia's sovereignty", the party's Committee for the Economy said in a press release on Tuesday. The party believes that putting the introduction of health education in schools in the focus of the media is just a cover-up so that the controversial investment bill can be pushed through parliament on fast track. The bill facilitates the sale of common good as well as the confiscation of private land to be put at the disposal of private investors if the project is declared to be a strategic investment project".
HDZ claims that after the failure to implement public investments announced by the incumbent government which was to have halted galloping job losses, the coalition government is now trying to push through a bill that will allow the sale of common good to private investors in an effort to launch an investment cycle.
The government's adoption of the bill for the 'privileged' will not solve the question of an inefficient and lethargic administration and will leave thousands of SMEs at the mercy of red tape. The bill is the result of an non-functioning system where nothing functions unless the minister intervenes, said the HDZ.
