The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO) has expressed satisfaction with the Croatian Parliament's decision to withdraw the contentious Golf Course Act, at the initiative of Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, saying that the government has admitted the mistake of its predecessors who insisted on the adoption and broad application of the said law.
The cancellation of the law is a victory of civil society but also a sign of reason on the part of PM Jadranka Kosor and her government, HHO said in a statement issued on Friday.
Croatia was the only country in the world with a special law on golf courses and the HHO was against its adoption and contested it before the Constitutional Court and by numerous civic actions. Other civic associations and NGOs, too, protested against the said law, the statement said.
