The civil society initiative called "In the Name of the Family" reported on Wednesday that they had collected over 710,000 signatures for a petition for calling a referendum that would ask if citizens were in favour of amending the Constitution with a provision stating that marriage is a union between a man and a woman.
Activists told a news conference that their initiative was not aimed against anybody but that its purpose was to ensure that citizens could freely and in a democratic way express their opinion on that important topic.
They also criticised some office-holders in the executive branch of the authority for being undemocratic when it came to this initiative.
