On the occasion of the International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, observed on 4 April, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic visited a stand set up by the Croatian Mine Action Centre in the Cvjetni square on Wednesday.
The city has always supported and will continue to support this campaign, Bandic said, adding that he was attending the humanitarian campaign for the seventh year in a row. He also thanked all donors and citizens who worked on raising awareness about the mine problem.
According to the Croatian Mine Action Centre, 737 square kilometres of land in Croatia is still suspected of being infested with mines. The centre said it would take approximately seven years to solve this problem, should a sufficient amount, namely EUR 500 million, be allocated for this purpose.
