The Croatian police have been notified by their Austrian colleagues that former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was arrested on an international warrant in the Salzburg area at 15.50 hours on Friday.
We also expect a notification in writing which we will deliver to the court with jurisdiction in this case and to the Croatian Justice Ministry so that extradition proceedings can be launched, said Croatian Interior Ministry spokesman Krunoslav Borovec.
The Austrian Kurier daily said on its web site that Sanader was arrested near Salzburg on Friday afternoon.
The arrest was made in the vicinity of the St. Michael motorway tollbooth near Salzburg.
According to Austrian media reports, Sanader was taken to a court in Salzburg.
