President Ivo Josipovic said on Tuesday that if the Constitution was to be amended to ensure that the statute of limitations did not run out on communist-era political killings, this should apply to all politically motivated murders and not just those committed during communist rule.
"Personally, I am not against it," Josipovic said after Mass on the occasion of Statehood Day when responding to questions from the press regarding the sermon given by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, in which he said that in Croatia today criminals were protected, while laws were tailored to suit the needs of individuals and political and business interests.
Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said that Croatia was a democratic country in which anyone could express their own views, while Veterans' Affairs Minister Predrag Matic said that all crimes must be prosecuted regardless of when and where and in whose name they were committed.
