Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and former Serbian President Boris Tadic will receive the European Medal of Tolerance in the European Parliament next week, the European Parliament reported.

The award-giving ceremony will be held on Tuesday afternoon in Brussels.

Before the ceremony, Josipovic will meet European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

The nongovernmental European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR), set up in Paris a few years ago to monitor tolerance in Europe, established a European tolerance prize called the Medal of Tolerance. The purpose of the prize is to honour the extraordinary creative achievements of outstanding activists who promote tolerance and reconciliation in Europe, as well as fighting xenophobia and racial and religious discrimination. The first recipient of the medal in 2010 was the King of Spain Juan Carlos I.

The Chairman of the Council is former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski, and the Co-chairman is President of the European Jewish Congress Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor.
