Roadblocks set up over two weeks ago by Serbs from northern Kosovo on the road in Leposavic leading to the border crossing of Jarinje were removed in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The removal of roadblocks in Zupce has also started while roadblocks in Rudar have not been removed "due to technical reasons", Belgrade-based media reported on Wednesday.

Free passage through the entire north of Kosovo has been enabled for international mission vehicles and KFOR is expected to respect the interim agreement with the Serbian government on free transport of goods at the border crossings of Brnjak and Jarinje, the media reported.

Representatives of Serbs from northern Kosovo on Tuesday postponed a meeting in Leposavic because Serbs from Zubin Potok municipality did not come for talks because they believe that the interim agreement between representatives of the Serbian government, the Kosovo government and KFOR on solving the crisis must be discussed by deputies in the Serbian parliament and not by representatives of local authorities and the media.

Following the postponement of the meeting of representatives of predominantly Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo, Serbia's Minister for Kosovo, Goran Bogdanovic, said on Tuesday the interim agreement signed by the governments of Serbia and Kosovo and KFOR on the solving of the latest crisis in Kosovo would be implemented.

The crisis broke out two weeks ago when Kosovo special police forces tried to put under their control the northern, Serb-controlled border crossings Jarinje and Brnjak, in order to enforce a ban on imports from Serbia in response to a Serbian ban on imports from Kosovo. This prompted local Serbs to set up roadblocks. One Kosovo policeman was killed in the ensuing violence and last Friday KFOR closed down the two border crossings.
