The comprehensive monitoring report on Croatia's compliance with EU membership requirements, which the European Commission is due to release on October 10, will not give any member state any reason to delay or stall the process of ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty, Deputy Prime Minister Neven Mimica said in Brussels on Monday.
"Some member states may decide to wait for the final report next April, but even in that case it will be within the agreed time, so we should not be pessimistic about the speed of the ratification process," Mimica told reporters after discussing the pre-accession monitoring report with Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele.
When asked if the possibility of post-accession monitoring was completely ruled out, Mimica answered in the affirmative. "Judging by the positions of the member states, I think that post-accession monitoring is ruled out," he said, adding that the countries that had asked for pre-accession monitoring would receive a confirmation in the Commission's report that Croatia was entering the Union as a fully prepared member.
