The son of Bosnian Serb wartime military commander Ratko Mladic, who was arrested on Thursday, said on Friday that his father's health was very poor and that the family requested that he be admitted to hospital.
Darko Mladic told reporters outside the special court for war crimes in Belgrade that his father's condition was extremely poor.
"We, as his family, will request his transfer to a hospital for medial treatment."
Darko Mladic said that his father had been provided "with a sort of medical assistance" and that he was under medical supervision in the court but that the family did not believe it was enough.
He said that he and his mother were concerned after seeing Mladic and the state he was in.
Mladic's son said they would also insist on an independent team of doctors.
In this context he said that they had talked with friends in Russia about a possibility for Russian doctors to be engaged in the medical examination of his father.
According to Darko Mladic, the questioning of Ratko Mladic by an investigating judge is likely to resume after he and his mother visited him.
"His opinion is that he is not guilty of what he is charged with. It remains to be seen whether we will have a chance to prove it," said Mladic's son.
Ratko Mladic reportedly suffered a stroke while on the run.
He is expected to be extradited to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague to face genocide charges.
