The new Islamic centre in Rijeka on Thursday for the first time hosted prayers celebrating Ramadan Bajram, the feast ending the month of the Ramadan fast.

The morning prayer was led by Rijeka Imam Hajrudin Mujkanovic. It is estimated that around 1,600 Islamic believers from around Rijeka and other parts of Croatia attended the prayers in the centre.

In his message Imam Mujkanovic said that Ramadan Bajram was an opportunity to return faith, hope and mutual trust and for evil and envy to disappear from people and to return self-confidence and unity.

The Islamic centre in Rijeka was officially opened on May 4 and consists of 5,300 square metres on four levels.

Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina greeted Islamic believers on their feast day.
