After denying reports in the Croatian media linking him to the Red Star Belgrade hotseat, the Serbian media reported today that former Yugoslavian and Croatian national footballer Robert Prosinečki will be taking over at the Belgrade club
According to the daily Press, Robert Prosinecki is Red Star Belgrade's new manager.
'We've reached an agreement with Prosinecki and he'll be presented to the public as Zvezda's new coach on Wednesday. We consider this to be the best solution at the moment because he is a club legend, a fan favorite and a man who is not only a great name for Red Star but for European football. Likewise, he has charisma and image is everything for maintaining authority in the dressing room', an unnamed board member allegedly told the press.
Prosinecki is currently a key member of the Croatian national team coaching staff and this would be his first managerial role on club level. According to reports from Serbia, his assistant manager at Zvezda could be Gordan Cipric.
The Press reports that Zvezda will pay Prosinecki a salary of €100,000 per season. Fans are reportedly excited by the prospect of having a club legend return, but are wary over his lack of experience.
'There's an offer from Red Star on the table, I know I have to make a decision quickly. That will be today', Prosinecki told the Vecernji List daily.
