Croatian National Bank governor Zeljko Rohatinski said on Thursday there was no legal or moral reason for him to resign, thus responding to criticism in the media and information that businessman Ivica Todoric and the Agrokor concern had bought his wife's company at an allegedly unrealistically high price and under suspicious circumstances.
Speaking on Croatian Television, Rohatinski said everything had been done under the law and that he was not even considering about resigning.
"There is no legal or moral reason why I should tender my resignation in response to this insinuation," he said.
In a declaration of assets received on 9 May 2011, Rohatinski stated that his wife owned the Romah company in Zagreb, the nominal value of which was HRK 2 million, and that he owned two flats, but a house in Zagreb mentioned by the media was not stated.
Rohatinski said his annual net salary was HRK 408,000 and that other annual net incomes amounted to HRK 117,000.
The declaration stated that his wife's annual net salary was HRK 85,000 and that Rohatinski took out a HRK 150,000 loan at Privredna Banka Zagreb this year.
Some media have reported that Agrokor in July became the owner of the Romah shipping company which until then was owned by Rohatinski's wife.
