Serbian police chief Milorad Veljovic and Croatian deputy police chief Milijan Brkic on Thursday held talks in Belgrade on the improvement of police cooperation between the two countries in the fight against organised crime and exchanged information on the case of Cvetko Simic, a Serbian national whose dismembered body was found in Zagreb's Jarun lake earlier this week.
After the talks, the two officials said they hoped that bilateral police cooperation would be further enhanced for the sake of successfully combating organised crime and underworld gangs.
Brkic called on police forces in other neighbouring countries to follow the example of Croatian-Serbian police cooperation in the struggle against organised crime.
Veljovic said they had agreed on setting up low-level operational teams that would be in touch on a regular basis in order to exchange all information on organised crime.
"Neither Serbia nor Croatia will be a haven to any criminal gang," the Serbian official said, adding that they had also discussed the case of Cvetko Simic.
Simic, 44, is believed to have been linked with mobsters in Belgrade. His decapitated corpse was found in Jarun Lake earlier this week. He was identified by Zagreb police.
