The situation in Cilipi Airport outside Dubrovnik was going back to normal on Saturday afternoon, after a fire in the area of Plat disrupted traffic along the Adriatic Tourist Road, which is the only connection between the City of Dubrovnik and its airport, preventing passengers from arriving at the airport in time for their flights.
According to the airport director Roko Tolic, there were delays in takeoffs of planes bound for European destinations as the aircraft captains decided to wait for passengers from Dubrovnik, who had to be first shipped on boats to Cavtat in order to reach the airport from that direction as the main road linking Dubrovnik and airport was closed due to the blaze in the early afternoon.
Tolic thanked shipping companies for transport of passengers.
Fire-fighting units, including a canadair plane, were battling against the brush fire in the area of Plat, a village between Dubrovnik and Cavtat on Saturday morning.
They managed to defend the houses from the blaze in the morning, the Croatian National rescue and Protection Directorate reported.
