Serbian President Boris Tadic has openly joined in the campaign for the general election in Bosnia and Herzegovina by supporting the Party of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), led by Bosnian Serb Prime Minister Milorad Dodik.

Tadic, who is also the president of the Democratic Party (DS) in Serbia, made an appearance at an SNSD election rally in the northern Bosnian town of Doboj on Wednesday evening, SNSD reported on its web site.

"I came to support my friends Mile (Milorad Dodik), Nebojsa (Radmanovic), Spiro (Nikola Spiric) and all other SNSD candidates and the entire SNSD," Tadic was cited by SNSD as saying.

Dodik said that he and his voters "love Serbia and will continue to root for it".

"Serbia has demonstrated political and social responsibility towards the Republika Srpska by purchasing Republika Srpska Telecom and the Republika Srpska has given and continues to give its love to Serbia," Dodik said.

The Bosnian Muslim Party of Democratic Action (SDA) issued a statement in reaction to Tadic's appearance at the SNSD election rally.

"By attending the rally, Tadic supports Milorad Dodik, the same person who claims that genocide was not committed in Srebrenica and who keeps advocating the secession of the Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina," SDA said in the statement.

The general election in Bosnia is scheduled for 3 October.
