The president of the Serbian Democratic Party (DS), Boris Tadic, will not run for party president at the intra-party election in September, the Novi Sad-based Dnevnik daily reported on Friday citing senior DS sources, adding that Tadic will leave the position to his deputy and Belgrade mayor Dragan Djilas.
According to the daily, Djilas could be the only candidate for party president.
At the last election in May, the DS suffered a great electoral loss, losing power at the presidential and parliamentarian levels.
The party kept the leading position only in Belgrade and the northern province of Vojvodina.
