At the end of February 342,951 unemployed people were registered with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), or 1.9% more than in February 2011 and 2.6% more than in January 2012, the HZZ said said on Friday.
The number of newly-registered job-seekers in February was 25,590, an increase of 5.3% year on year and a decline of 30.3% in relation to January 2012.
The largest number of registered job-seekers was recorded in Split-Dalmatia County (46,331, or 13.5% of the total number of the unemployed in Croatia), followed by the City of Zagreb (41,574, or 12.1%) and Osijek-Baranja County (36,092, or 10.5%), while the smallest number was reported in Lika-Senj County (3,569, or 1%).
Compared with February 2011, unemployment declined in five counties and increased in 16. The biggest decline in the number of the unemployed was recorded in Lika-Senj County (7.8%) and Istria County (3.6%), while the biggest increase was reported in Krapina-Zagorje County (7.4%) and Split-Dalmatia County (7.1%).
