An exhibition of works by Croatian painter Vlaho Bukovac (1844-1922) will open in Zagreb's Klovicevi Dvori gallery on February 2.

The author of the exhibition, which is to feature 98 paintings, is an arthistorian and Bukovac expert, Igor Zidic.

The exhibition, entitled "Vlaho Bukovac - A CosmopolitanCroatian", was staged last September in Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, where itwas seen by almost 50,000 visitors.

Born in Cavtat, Croatia, Bukovac lived in America, Paris, Zagreb and Prague, and spent extended periods of time in England and Vienna.

He went through all painting periods - from Academism, to Realism, toImpressionism and Symbolism to modern painting, and he was particularlyrecognised as a portrait painter, Zidic said at a news conference held earlierthis week.

He left a great body of work despite the fact that he moved a lot, spendingonly 13 years of his life in Croatia, Zidic said.
