Miljenko Zaja aka Krojf, who is wanted by the Croatian judiciary, was arrested in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday for involvement in international cocaine smuggling, Selma Hecimovic, spokeswoman for the Bosnian State Attorney's Office, told reporters.
She said another two men were taken into custody together with Zaja, the brothers Petar and Ante Cosic from Tomislavgrad.
The arrest warrant was issued by the Bosnian State Attorney's Office based on an investigation being carried out by the police forces of five countries.
"We are talking about international cocaine smuggling, a shipment seized in Spain," said Hecimovic.
After the arrest, the police in Mostar said Zaja was arrested on a warrant issued in Croatia, in cooperation with the police of the Bosnian Serb entity.
Zaja was arrested in the morning on an order of the Bosnian State Prosecutor's Office as part of an investigation being carried out by the Interior Ministry of Bosnia's Serb entity in cooperation with Croatia's authorities, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Interior Ministry spokesman Srecko Bosnjak said this morning.
However, Hecimovic said Zaja's arrest was not related to the Croatian warrant. In Croatia he was convicted to three years' imprisonment and is also wanted by the Zagreb County Court for attempted murder in 1991.
