Opposition politician Ivica Pancic has announced that he will file criminal charges against the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), today at a press conference that started in Parliament at 11 o'clock.

Pancic told the Croatian news portal Index that he was filing charges in accordance with article 3 of the Legal Entities Responsibility Act. Article 3 of the said act states that “Legal entities will be charged with the crimes of their responsible person if their acts infringe on the duties of the legal entity or if the legal entity had or could have had illegal gain for itself or another party.”

“So, if the party president, in this instance former HDZ President Ivo Sanader, is responsible and if he committed a criminal act, then the legal entity, or the HDZ, is also responsible,” said Pancic, adding that Article 26 of the same act stipulates that the State Attorney may file criminal charges against the party.

Namely, Article 26 states that “If charges are filed against the responsible person, the State Attorney may within his jurisdiction file criminal charges against the legal entity for the same offense.”

“I am basing all this on the unquestionable acts that the former HDZ President Ivo Sanader is charged with and that HDZ officials themselves admitted,” Pancic concluded.
