Comparing the position of the Serb minority in Croatia and the Croat minority in Serbia, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic told Vojvodina Radio Television on Wednesday that Croatia was securing better conditions for the activities of Serb minority representation bodies.

"Croatia's legislation allows better participation as Croatia has reserved seats for minority representatives, not only in the state parliament but also in local self-government units," Josipovic said.

He underlined that the share of Serbs in Croatia's population is higher that the share of Croats in Serbia.

Countries need to be generous towards minorities as minorities are not threatening our countries, Josipovic said adding that minorities "are our wealth".

Commenting on genocide lawsuits that Croatia and Serbia filed against one another before the International Court of Justice, Josipovic said the lawsuits were not as important and that they were more of an emotional character.

He also said his meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic was not possible at this moment.

"Our meeting would be meaningful if we could send out some good message," he explained.
