Croatia has joined the European Union countries that have imposed an embargo on the import, purchase and transport of oil and petroleum products from Iran, according to a decision made by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic's cabinet on Thursday.

Deputy Foreign and European Affairs Minister Josko Klisovic said that by doing so, Croatia was adjusting to the regime of sanctions introduced by EU countries against Iran.

The decision supplements the existing system of restrictions regarding the import, purchase and transport of Iranian crude oil and oil products and petrochemical products, as well as the ban on the export of crucial equipment and technology from Croatia to the Iranian petrochemical industry, Klisovic said.

The government also made decisions on the rotation of Croatian contingents in the UN peace missions MINURSO in West Sahara and UNMOGIP in India and Pakistan.
