Deputy chair of the parliamentary committee for European integration Gordan Jandrokovic and committee members Gvozden Flego and Tonino Picula paid a three-day working visit to Berlin where they met with several MPs and government officials and discussed recent statements about Germany's doubt about Croatia's readiness to join the European Union (EU), the Croatian Sabor said in a press release on Wednesday.
The Croatian parliamentarians embarked on the visit at the invitation of the Bundestag European Union Affairs Committee where they met with their host, the committee's chairman Gunther Krichbaum and several other MPs and government officials.
The talks revolved around the European Commission monitoring report released earlier this month and Germany's reactions to the report. The Croatian delegation informed that they believed that Croatia would meet all its requirements in time to become a member of the EU on 1 July 2013.
The German politicians reassured that Germany would not put up any barriers to Croatia but that clear expectations had been set for the spring monitoring report. Croatia needs to complete all ten urgent measures noted the recent report if it wishes to join the EU as planned. Croatia should also continue with wider reforms and has Germany's full support in these efforts, the press release notes.
Germany will complete its ratification process of Croatia's accession treaty after the spring report is released, the German politicians said, adding that they believed the report would be positive if Croatia remained committed to implementing set reforms.
