The comedy titled "Sonja and the bull" by Vlatka Vorkapic which has turned out to be a Croatian blockbuster, has been awarded with the Platinum Remi in the feature film category at the 46th international Worldfest Houston film festival, Interfilm reported on Thursday.
The film, screened on 17 April in Houston, has been given the highest award at this festival of independent films and the third longest running festival in the United States.
The film was premiered at last year's Pula film festival and won the Golden Award for the best screenplay, costumes and musical score.
The film focuses on the main character, Sonja, a city girl from Zagreb, a vegetarian and animal-rights activist who strongly opposes bullfighting in the Dalmatian Hinterland. People find this irritating and they conclude that no matter how passionately Sonja loves animals, she would never dare to stand in front of a bull and start raising bets.
After its US premiere, "Sonja and the bull" will continue its international tour of film festivals around Asia and then back to Europe.
