Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic said on Thursday he would not accept the resignation of Zagreb police chief Goran Burusic, whose son is under investigation for loan approval fraud and document forgery.
"Chief Burusic should not resign. He would have been replaced had he acted for the benefit of his son and misused his office in any way," Ostojic told the press before a government session.
When asked if it was certain that Burusic had not known about what his son was doing, Ostojic said that "the fact that his son is in custody speaks enough."
On Wednesday evening Sasa Burusic was remanded in investigative custody for 30 days for fear that he might tamper with witnesses or evidence and repeat the crime he is suspected of.
According to unofficial sources, Sasa Burusic forged documents for clients who did not qualify for loans and found them guarantors among state administration staff. He is also suspected of receiving a commission for his deeds.
