President Ivo Josipovic had a lunch meeting with Istria County head Valter Flego and mayors of towns and municipalities in Istria County, in Valbandon on Saturday.
Addressing the press afterwards, Josipovic said that local government in Istria was functioning very well and very efficiently, adding that he wished the entire Croatia was functioning as well.
"Istria has become a brand name and it gives optimism. The name of Istria is known worldwide, as shown by the large number of tourists who come here every year," Josipovic said, noting the role of local government leaders "on whom depends the quality of life, the standard of living and the success of each resident of Istria."
Flego said that local mayors often struggled with problems "many of which do not fall within their scope of action." "I hope you will continue to be our partner in efforts by municipalities, towns and counties to have greater powers in their hands," he told the president.
