Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor confirmed on Friday that she and Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski had discussed measures by the central bank, adding that the government did not perceive the HNB as a competition.
"It's extremely important that we are on the same track, and the government welcomes any measure that can help Croatian enterprises, the national economy and job creation," Kosor told reporters before a meeting of the governing committee of her Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party.
When asked if she considered as hostile the latest move by the HNB governor to release 6.3 billion kuna of reserves into the banking system to facilitate the granting of entrepreneurial loans, Kosor replied in the negative. "No, the HNB is an independent institution, whose autonomy and independence was additionally increased by our government through last year's constitutional amendments."
Kosor said that she and Rohatinski had found a lot of room for better cooperation in the future, and added that they had agreed to meet again as soon as possible.
