Croatian war veteran Danko Maslov on Thursday denied the accusations by the Serbian judicial authorities that he had committed war crimes against the wounded and sick during the 1991-1995 war in eastern Croatia.
Maslov was questioned at the Zagreb County Court by investigating judge Kresimir Devcic at the request of the Serbian authorities. After five and a half hours of questioning, Maslov left the court building without speaking to the press.
His lawyer Emir Midzic said that his client had presented a detailed defence, answering all the questions. "He denied everything he is being accused of," Midzic said.
The lawyer would not discuss details of his client's statement, citing confidentiality.
Judge Devcic said that he would send the record of examination to the Ministry of Justice, which in turn would forward it to Serbia. After that the Serbian justice authorities will decide whether or not they will proceed with criminal prosecution of Maslov and two other Croatian veterans Tihomir Purda and Petar Janjic.
Devcic would not speculate as to when a decision in this case could be made.
Janjic is expected to be questioned in the County Court in Vukovar in the afternoon.
Purda, who is in custody in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was questioned in Sarajevo on Monday.
