Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and his first deputy, Economy Minister Radimir Cacic, will travel to Labin in Istria County on Friday for talks on the construction of a thermal power plant, Plomin 3, the prime minister announced at the start of a government session on Thursday.

It is currently one of the biggest projects in Croatia on which a decision is to be made soon, because the tender is being closed tomorrow and the interest is huge, Milanovic said.

The Plomin 3 project is burdened with financial and environmental issues of concern to the local community and beyond, including Slovenia, the Gorski Kotar region, Rijeka, Opatija, Pula and Buje, he added.

Plomin pollutes the environment, but much less than before. One of the biggest polluters in Croatia are the motorways and I am sure that no one is in favour of shutting them down, Milanovic said.

It is a very complex issue. We have agreed on certain things and have discussed many important points, but we will not do anything by force because Istria is equally important to us as any other area of Croatia, he concluded.
