The latest conciliation round between the government and the Croatian physicians' and nurses' unions failed on Monday and the two unions will go on strike.

Union leaders said the government turned down all of their demands, creating the prerequisites for organising a strike.

The two unions asked that the starting point for negotiations be a November 2011 collective agreement which a court declared invalid this past June.

The Independent Union of Health and Welfare Employees will not take part in the strike. Its starting point for the negotiations is the collective agreement in force.
