The chairwoman of the National Committee monitoring Croatia's EU entry talks, Vesna Pusic, said on Thursday that the last two days in the European Parliament were very important for Croatia, adding that "very impressive results" have been achieved with today's approval of Croatia's Accession Treaty with the European Union.
The European Parliament on Thursday approved by a vast majority of votes Croatia's Treaty of Accession to the European Union, paving the way for its signing next week. Participating in the vote at today's plenary session were 634 MEPs, of whom 564 deputies voted in favour of the treaty, 32 abstained, and 38 voted against.
"Very impressive results and a very impressive atmosphere," said Pusic, who was among the Croatian delegates, led by Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic, present at the plenary session and the voting. She added that 376 votes were needed for the European Parliament to greenlight Croatia's EU entry.
"For us this is the end of the second stage of Croatia's development and the start of the third one in which Croatia will also become a political part of Europe and not just its historical or geographical part. Major tasks are ahead of us, big opportunities, and an absolutely open road to success," Pusic said.
The Croatian government today published the text of the Treaty of Accession on its website, both in Croatian and in English, as well as its supplement, namely a list of legal remedies.
