Rijeka to host int'l festival Republika on July 18-20

Republika, the first international festival conceived as a combination of summer school, conference and festival, will bring together about 100 experts, activists, artists and about 1,000 young people to the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka on July 18-20, organisers announced on Sunday.

The festival will take place at several locations in the city, which is the organiser with the assistance of many individuals.

The event will draw creative people "from the field of progressive culture" from Croatia, the region and the rest of the world, enabling them to exchange ideas, experiences and inspirations.

One of the aims is to promote Rijeka as a regional centre of creative industries and a European festival centre as well as attract tourists.

The festival will include workshops, playrooms, lectures, presentations, installations, concerts and entertainment.

The three-day programme will comprise of six parallel parts, some of which are organised by festivals such as SHARE (Belgrade-Bayreuth), A MAZE (Berlin/Johannesburg), PAUSE (Melbourne), East Doc Platform (Prague), and the SeedCamp travelling innovation festival.

The festival will also include the RockPaperStartups conference which will draw together young entrepreneurs from Croatia and central and east Europe.
