Croatia's former prime minister and honorary president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Ivo Sanader, on Tuesday dismissed media reports saying that he had received commission from Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank for agency services.
"I most resolutely dismiss false claims by some media that I receivedcommission for alleged agency services to Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank, and the bankhas never financed the HDZ," Sanader said in a denial.
Some media today reported that the Austrian paper Die Presse had run a storyon Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank, citing a story by the APA news agency headlined"Bombastic Details about Carinthian Bank's Business in the Balkans",which mentions Sanader as the person who opened Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank the doorto doing business in Croatia and who received hefty commission for agencyservices in the awarding of loans.
"These are malicious lies which have been served to the public before, mostly prior to elections. Such imputations are aimed at discrediting me andthe HDZ," Sanader said in the denial, adding that there was a possibilitythat he would sue the media in question.
