The Slovenian government on Wednesday ratified a memorandum of agreement with the Croatian government signed by the two prime ministers on Monday, and approved a bill on the ratification of Croatia's European Union accession treaty, sending it to parliament for adoption, government spokesman Anze Logar said.
The regulation ratifying the memorandum on the Ljubljanska Banka issue and the accession treaty will be published in the official gazette and go into force when Slovenia and Croatia notify each other through diplomatic channels that both have ratified the memorandum, Logar said.
In Slovenia, the ministries of finance and foreign affairs and the government's high representative for succession to the former Yugoslavia are authorised for the enforcement of the memorandum.
Slovenia made the ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty conditional on a solution to the Ljubljanska Banka issue, which was achieved with the memorandum of understanding.
Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said after it was signed that given the high degree of political agreement in all parliamentary parties, the Slovenian parliament could ratify the treaty by the end of this month. The ratification requires a two-thirds majority of the 90-seat parliament.
