Several thousand Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday evening joined in a global campaign of support for Croatian general Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac, who are on trial in The Hague for war crimes committed against Serb civilians during and in the aftermath of Operation Storm in the summer of 1995.
The campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina was organised by the Croatian People's Assembly, which said in a statement on Monday that thousands of people in as many as 19 towns in the country lit candles to show that in the most difficult and decisive moments the two generals were not left alone.
The global campaign of support for Gotovina and Markac, called The Flame of Freedom, was held at the initiative of the Croatian World Congress a day before an appeal hearing in their case before the Hague war crimes tribunal.
