All three managers of the Pevec retail group who were arrested on Thursday have been heard by an investigating judge of the Bjelovar County Court and are suspected of committing economic crimes. Two of them have been placed in 48-hour custody, while the third has been released.

"Two persons have been detained for 48 hours. During that time the public prosecutor will recommend an investigation and only after that will the investigating judge decide on detention. All three persons are suspected of economic crimes," investigating judge Antonija Bagaric told reporters on Friday.

A decision on whether or not a detention order will be issued is expected later in the day.

According to unofficial information, Pevec Group founder Zdravko Pevec and his wife Visnja were placed in custody, while accountant Dragica Barisic was released.

Media have speculated that Zdravko Pevec is facing charges for issuing promissory notes without financial backing. Pevec Group has recently filed for bankruptcy.
