The vice-president of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS), Zeljko Siric, and the chairman of the Referee Commission, Stjepan Djedovic, have been relieved of their duties and reported to the HNS Disciplinary Commission.

This was decided by the HNS Executive Board at a meeting on Sunday at which all Board members expressed their support to the judicial authorities investigating suspected irregularities in football.

The Board dissolved the Referee Commission and undertook to appoint a new Commission chairman soon. It notified the international and European football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA of the ongoing investigation.

Siric and Djedovic were arrested on Friday on suspicion of match fixing and bribe taking. A Zagreb County Court investigating judge ordered on Saturday that they be remanded in investigative custody for 30 days.

The two football officials were arrested after taking from an undercover investigator a bribe of 30,000 euros for refereeing in First Division games. The amount was a portion of a bribe of some 100,000 euros they had allegedly demanded for fair refereeing at several matches of the last national championship.
