UN Secretary-General arrives in Zagreb

The United Nations' Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Friday afternoon arrived in Zagreb for a visit to Croatia as part of his tour of countries in the area of the former Socialist Yugoslav Federation on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the admission of those countries to the World Organisation.

Ban, accompanied by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and by the highest-ranking Croatian official in the UN, Ivan Simonovic, UN Assistant Secretary-General for human rights, arrived in the Croatian capital from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

The programme of his visit also includes a lecture in Zagreb and a visit to the Andrija Stampar School of Public Health on Friday afternoon and a trip to central Istria over the weekend.

On Friday evening the UN secretary-General will travel to the Brijuni archipelago where he will hold talks with Croatia's top officials on Saturday.

Croatia entered the UN on 22 May 1992.
