The evacuation of Croatian citizens from Libya ended on Monday and during the evacuation, which started on 21 February, the Croatian foreign ministry helped evacuate a total of 404 Croatian and 51 foreign citizens, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic told a news conference on Tuesday.
"We can say that all Croatian citizens who wanted to be evacuated have been evacuated. The last charter plane with Crosco workers is scheduled to arrive today," Jandrokovic said.
A group of 27 Crosco workers is expected to land in Zagreb at 1930 hours.
Since 21 February, when all Croatian companies doing business in Libya asked the government for assistance, a total of 404 Croatian and 51 foreign citizens have been evacuated, he said, adding that those foreign nationals either worked for Croatian companies or joined them in the evacuation. The foreign nationals are citizens of the United States, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Canada, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania and the Netherlands.
Of the 404 evacuated Croats, 301 worked for Croatian companies and 103 had foreign employers.
Jandrokovic said that four Croats stayed in Libya, as they did not wish to be evacuated, adding that they would be given assistance should they require it.
This was the most complex evacuation operation given that workers were at five different locations throughout Libya, the minister said, expressing satisfaction with the successful completion of the operation.
