Addressing reporters after a session of the HDZ Presidency in Zagreb, Kosor said that in the past months the SDP had made nothing to prove its pro-European orientation.

She said that the party had been against the conclusion of the border arbitration agreement between Croatia and Slovenia.

As for negotiations on the restructuring of shipyards, "while we were painstakingly and incessantly working to ensure a positive opinion (from the European Commission) on restructuring plans, for instance for the Brodosplit shipyard, the SDP in Split was trying to get workers to take to the streets, trying to convince both them and the entire public that Brodosplit was lost," Kosor said.

She recalled that SDP MPs did not vote for the adoption of legislation on conflict of interest and on police, although those were benchmarks for the closing of the Judiciary and Fundamental Rights negotiating area.

Kosor refuted SDP leader Zoran Milanovic's statement that this was the first time Croatia still did not have a date for parliamentary elections even though it was an election year.

The elections will be held by the end of 2011. The legal deadline is March 2012, but they will be by the end of this year, the HDZ leader said, adding that in June she would announce the exact date of the elections.

If the elections were held now, we would stand no chance of completing the EU entry talks, said Kosor.
