Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Friday received a delegation of war veterans who participated in the 1995 Operation Storm, and stressed that the operation of liberating occupied Croatian territory was legitimate.
Welcoming the delegation of some 130 war veterans, Josipovic said Operation Storm was the most famous military operation of the Homeland Defence War in which the majority of the occupied Croatian territory was liberated.
We proudly remember those days and your immeasurable contribution to the liberation of our homeland, the president said, adding that those were the days of pride and glory which nobody can deny or contest.
He promised the veterans that during his term in office the anniversary of Operation Storm would be properly marked and that he would continue to have meetings with veteran representatives.
He reiterated that he had decorated several veterans and showed that although many years have passed, the heroic acts of Croatian veterans have been forgotten.
On behalf of the veterans delegation, Lieutenant Rade Lasic thanked the president for the reception.
On the occasion of marking the 15th anniversary of Operation Storm, decorations were bestowed on several Croatian veterans by president Josipovic.
